Replacement pump compatibility
Replacement pumps are not universal. This guide separates the dimensions and operating requirements that determine whether a pump is a realistic candidate for a specific gas pressure washer.

Match the original system, not the biggest number in the search results. A pump that bolts on can still be wrong for the shaft, power, plumbing or output requirements.

Measure shaft diameter and usable length; identify horizontal vs. vertical orientation, keying, mounting holes or flange standard, and the space available around the engine/frame.
The pump's output class has to make sense for the engine and the rest of the washer. Do not treat a higher maximum PSI as a free upgrade.
Port type and location determine whether hoses clear the frame. Integrated and external unloaders also change plumbing and replacement requirements.
SIMPSON's current replacement-pump pages repeatedly state that users must check the pressure washer's inlet and outlet orientation for compatibility, even on kits using an SAE-standard bolt pattern. That is an important real-world reminder: bolt-on does not automatically mean usable once the frame, hose routing and fittings are considered.

Once the mechanical class is known, the manufacturer guides for CAT Pumps, AR / Annovi Reverberi, General Pump, AAA and Comet show why shaft, RPM, flange, port and unloader details still differ inside similar PSI/GPM classes.
If a pump manufacturer explicitly names an engine family, that is strong evidence for the shaft/orientation relationship. For example, SIMPSON lists the 90029 with Honda GC190 and GX200 examples and the 90039 with a Honda GX270 example. It does not prove that the pump fits every pressure-washer frame using that engine.
The pressure washer can still differ in pump position, frame clearance, inlet/outlet direction, hose connection, unloader plumbing or other details. That is why the Pump Finder deliberately returns a conditional result rather than a universal-fit claim. For a horizontal 1-inch direct-drive system in the 4 GPM / 4000 PSI class, current search paths include General Pump and AR options. For other classes, use the finder first instead of forcing a 1-inch professional pump into a smaller engine setup.
Identify the original pressure washer and pump model first. Then verify shaft orientation and diameter, mounting or flange pattern, shaft style/length, pump RPM, required flow and pressure, engine torque or horsepower, inlet/outlet orientation, connection type, unloader configuration and physical clearance.
No. Some replacement kits use common SAE mounting patterns and standard connections, but manufacturers still specify shaft size, orientation, capacity and plumbing checks. A product described as fitting many brands is not universal.
Do not assume that a higher-rated pump is a safe upgrade. The engine, unloader, hose, gun, fittings, nozzle and other components must remain within their ratings, and a higher-flow pump can require more power.
The current replacement examples reviewed for this site include 3/4-inch horizontal, 7/8-inch vertical and 1-inch horizontal shaft classes. Those are examples, not a complete list; measure and verify the exact engine or motor shaft.
No. A matching bolt pattern is only one compatibility check. Manufacturers such as SIMPSON still instruct users to verify inlet and outlet orientation, while shaft dimensions, clearance, RPM and power requirements also matter.
