General Pump Pressure Washer Pumps & Compatibility
General Pump publishes clear distinctions between direct-gas hollow-shaft, solid-shaft and Pumps Made Ready configurations. Match drive architecture, shaft, RPM, power, flow, pressure and plumbing before choosing a pump.
General Pump model family identifies the drive class
A 4-GPM pump is not enough information: confirm EZ vs. TS/TSS vs. PMR, shaft style and operating RPM.
Use the Pump Finder for the initial EZ4040G comparison, then verify the exact installation.

General Pump has several distinct pressure-cleaning architectures
A General Pump model name is meaningful because the manufacturer publishes drive and shaft architecture in addition to output. A direct-gas EZ pump and a solid-shaft TS pump can overlap in PSI/GPM while requiring completely different mounting and drive systems.
| Current model | Published output | Drive / shaft | Selection implication |
|---|---|---|---|
| EZ4030G34 | 3.0 GPM / 4000 PSI / 3400 RPM | 1-in hollow shaft; direct gas; SAE J609B | Lower-flow 1-in direct-drive class. |
| EZ4035G34 | 3.5 GPM / 4000 PSI / 3400 RPM | 1-in hollow shaft; direct gas; SAE J609B | Same architecture, higher flow and power requirement. |
| EZ4040G | 4.0 GPM / 4000 PSI / 3400 RPM | 1-in hollow shaft; direct gas; SAE J609B | Published 16.4 GHP; common professional replacement reference. |
| TSS1511 | 4.0 GPM / 3500 PSI / 1450 RPM | 24 mm solid shaft | Low-speed solid-shaft class, not a direct replacement for EZ4040G. |
| TS2021 | Current variants include 4.5 GPM / 3500 PSI at 1125 RPM and 5.6 GPM / 3500 PSI at 1450 RPM | 24 mm solid shaft | Model/variant and RPM must be read from the exact product page/data sheet. |
PMR changes the plumbing package—not the core pump identity
General Pump's current Pumps Made Ready catalog includes versions such as PMREZ4040G, PMRTSS1511 and PMRTS2021. PMR packages add components such as an unloader, quick-connect outlet hardware, garden-hose inlet fitting and hose barb. That can simplify installation, but it does not make a pump mechanically compatible with every engine or frame.
Always compare the base pump's shaft, speed, drive and power requirements first, then check the PMR plumbing against the machine.
General Pump is a strong bridge between system design and replacement
The manufacturer's FAQ explains that a basic pressure washer system includes the drive, pump, regulator/unloader, hose, gun, wand and nozzle. It also notes that the lowest-rated component limits the system. That is the same compatibility logic used throughout this site.
Continue to Unloader Valve and the Nozzle Calculator when the pump class is established.
EZ4040G options only after the 1-inch direct-gas class is verified
Verify the engine shaft, SAE mounting, 3400-RPM requirement, available engine power, plumbing and clearance before treating EZ4040G as a replacement.

Frequently asked questions
What is the General Pump EZ4040G rated for?
General Pump currently lists EZ4040G at 4.0 GPM, 4000 PSI and 3400 RPM with a 1-inch hollow shaft for direct coupling to gasoline engines and a published 16.4 GHP requirement.
What is the difference between General Pump EZ and TS pumps?
EZ gas models include direct-coupled hollow-shaft configurations around 3400 RPM. TS / 47 Series models are solid-shaft pump classes commonly used with belt, gearbox or coupled systems at lower pump speeds. Exact model data controls.
What does PMR mean for General Pump?
PMR means Pumps Made Ready. Current PMR listings package specific pumps with plumbing such as an unloader, quick connect, garden-hose inlet fitting and related hardware.
Can I replace a belt-drive TS pump with an EZ4040G?
Not as a drop-in assumption. The shaft style, speed, mounting/drive method, flow, pressure and power requirements differ materially between direct-gas EZ and solid-shaft TS configurations.
Does General Pump publish horsepower guidance?
Yes. General Pump publishes horsepower formulas and drive-type constants in its customer-service documentation. Use the exact pump rating and drive method rather than choosing by engine horsepower alone.
Why does PressureWasherMatch.com use EZ4040G as a reference pump?
It is a well-documented 4 GPM / 4000 PSI direct-gas class with explicit shaft, speed and power data, making it useful for illustrating what must match beyond PSI and GPM.
